The emerging display industry is gradually integrating smart technologies such as AI, IoT, big data, and cloud computing, driving the development of next-generation displays like Mini LED/Micro LED Displays with diverse applications across the industries. The demand for these displays is gradually shifting from traditional consumer electronic products to applications in smart fields such as smart automotive and entertainment. This shift is pushing the industry from capacity expansion to innovation in new technology development and value integration.
Lincotec offers plasma etching solutions for next-generation displays, preventing grain damage during production while meeting product functionality and reliability requirements.innovation, and value integration, rather than just expanding production capacity.

Application Description

The evolution of panel display technology has progressed from 360p and 1080p to UHD, 4K, and to 8K high resolution in the current era of. With the enlargement of consumer displays and the increasing demand for high resolution, slimness, and high dynamics in end-user applications, display technology has shifted from the traditional approach of using a backlight source with LCD control to the development of self-emissive light sources. Various display technologies have found their place based on performance criteria such as brightness, contrast, energy consumption, lifespan, and cost, etc. In recent years, prominent options include Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED), Mini LED, and Micro LED.

LED, which stands for "Light-Emitting Diode," is an electronic component that can convert electrical energy into light energy. It can produce light of different wavelengths depending on the materials used. Direct-view LEDs are commonly used in outdoor video walls or traffic lights. LEDs are also widely used as backlighting for LCD screens and lighting fixtures.

Mini LED is considered a transitional technology between traditional LED backlighting and Micro LED. It is an improved version of traditional LED backlighting used for LCD panels. Some displays have also started to incorporate RGB Mini LED.   The uses of Micro LED are not limited to backlights, because the individual pixels of Micro LED have reached a level that is difficult to distinguish with the naked eye. This allows the direct assembly of R, G, and B sub-pixels without the need for filters and liquid crystal layers. Therefore, Micro LED is considered the next-generation display technology by the industry.
In the LED industry chain, each display technology utilizes different packaging processes. Taking Lincotec's Plasma Cleaning Equipment as an example:

In LED packaging technology, plasma cleaning before wire bonding, before molding, and before under-fill dispensing can effectively remove surface oxides, activate the surface energy, and enhance packaging reliability. In the direct-display technology of R, G, B for Mini/Micro LED, plasma cleaning of surface residues after molding and die bonding can effectively improve screen brightness. In the high-volume transfer process of Micro LED, the use of advanced plasma etching technology (ICP-RIE) significantly enhances transfer yield and reliability.
